These desks will work for you, and they’re available right here Toronto

Even with light at the end of the lockdown tunnel, working from home – whether for just one day a week or straight through from Monday to Friday – will likely be a permanent feature of office work going forward. So if you haven’t upgraded your impromptu setup with something a little more lasting, consider one of the following desks to get you started.

Nyhavn Desk

Danish architect and designer Finn Juhl pared the writer’s desk down to its simplest form with this elegantly-proportioned classic. Choose from walnut, teak or oak for the frames and matching leg accents. Three letter trays are painted in a warm palette inspired by poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s influential colour wheel representation of complementary colours. See it here.

Palette Desk

Jaime Hayon envisioned this desk for multi-taskers who are always balancing a range of projects. Suspended on a stainless-steel frame, its two surfaces keep paperwork separated while evoking the kinetic energy of an Alexander Calder mobile. It’s paired here with Hayon’s sinuous Catch chair in purple wool-blend upholstery with black oak legs. See it here.

Conrad Desk

Gus Modern’s walnut wonder includes drawers for file folders, accessories and snack-break treats. Stainless steel legs and aluminum handles give the mid-century-inspired design some contemporary flair. See it here.

Cupertino Desk

Named after Apple’s home-town in California, and available at BoConcept, this white-lacquered wood desk is fittingly tech friendly – built-in cable compartments hide unsightly power cords. The oak veneer–finish accents provide simple contrast. See it here.

Metronome

Toronto’s Fig40 designed these tables in sizes from cozy to boardroom, with options for power, data and video. They come in veneer, laminate or glass, with an aluminum base. See it here.

Line Storage Desk

Behind its louvred panelling, this Nathan Yong-designed desk, available in oak and walnut, features a deceptive amount of storage, including a trio of drawers on the front and back panel that opens up on the reverse. Plus, a concealed cable management system will keep the whole thing looking trim and tidy. See it here.
