A San Fran-Style Tech Hub Arrives on King West

A former hostel at King and Spadina is now inviting coding whizzes to check in

Once a crash spot for sleepy backpackers, 460 King Street West now keeps pace with its bustling neighbourhood. This fall, Allied Properties REIT returned the 140-year-old building to its original black-and-white facade and added a new west atrium designed by Gensler.

Inside, digital-strategy firm Konrad hosts a combination of boot camp program courses, workshops in mobile development, shared workspaces for industry professionals and freelancers, and a cafe. (Expect fast wifi.) Filled with cushy sofas and geometric lighting, the contemporary interiors are the work of Reflect Architecture and MAAST, the creative studio led by Mahmood Popal.
